Etrade ameritrade schwab
Interactive Brokers, Charles Schwab, TD Ameritrade, E-Trade, and Fidelity all moved to eliminate fees for US-listed trades in late September and early October, in turn wiping out huge chunks of some of the companies' market caps. Schwab reports active brokerage accounts on the basis of client activity in the last 270 days, while E*trade and Ameritrade report end of period accounts. Interestingly, half of the newly created accounts at Schwab's become dormant. Assuming a similar trend for ETFC and AMTD, Schwab retains its leadership position in client acquisition.
